EAPT regularly conducts surveys on various topics to gather evidence about pharmacy practice and to promote quality improvements within the profession.

The results of EAPTs recent surveys are published below.

A REPORT OF EDUCTION AND TRAINING OF PHARMACY TECHNICIANS

This report is based on a survey conducted in March 2017. Countries that are members of EAPT were included in the survey and other countries where the profession of Pharmacy Technician exists were also invited to participate in the survey.

The purpose of the survey was to characterize Pharmacy Technicians training programmes and give a detailed and easily accessible overview of the differences and similarities between the education and training throughout Europe.

The definition of a “Pharmacy Technician” for the purpose of this survey was the professional pharmacy support workforce cadres that work with pharmacists.

PHARMACY TECHNICIANS ACROSS EUROPE – COMMUNITY PHARMACY

EAPT has asked its member organisations to detail the scope of practice of pharmacy technicians. The results are now beeing published here.

This report gives a detailed and easily accessible overview of the differences and similarities between the scope of practice pharmacy technicians working in community pharmacy.

The survey has two sections. The first section is an overview of possible tasks that pharmacy technicians are legally allowed to do and not to do in community pharmacies. In other words, where the pharmacy technician bears the legal responsibility of the action.

The second section has additional information, if you would like to compare the practice of community pharmacy technicians across countries.

The report can be used to compare the profession across borders and shows, what is required, if you want to work in another European country.

PHARMACY TECHNICIANS ACROSS EUROPE – HOSPITAL PHARMACY

The EAPT gather and compare information on the role and education of pharmacy technicians across Europe. As part of the information gather role, a hospital pharmacy technician survey was conducted in EAPT member countries in 2015.

The purpose of this survey was to give detailed overview of the differences and similarities between the scopes of practice of pharmacy technicians working in hospital pharmacy.

An updated survey was distributed to EAPT member and non-member countries in 2022. Pharmacy technicians were asked to detail the scopes of practice in the following areas;

• Education/registration • Career development/leadership • Management • Sterile and non-sterile compounding • Quality assurance

EUROPEAN SURVEY ON TECHNOLOGIES AVAILABLE TO PHARMACY TECHNICANS IN THEIR WORKPLACE

The purpose of the survey is to assess and compare the scope of technologies available to pharmacy technicians working in hospital, community, industry and education across EAPT member and non-member countries.

The results will inform on the technological advancements that are available to pharmacy technicians in EAPT member and non-member countries and how they utilise these technologies in their everyday working environment.

The survey also intends to show the efficiencies in work practices that can be gained from the use of technologies, particularly in areas such as managing supply, cost savings, work efficiencies.

EAPT VACCINATION SURVEY

This report is based on a survey conducted in April 2019. Countries that are members of EAPT were included in the survey. The purpose of the survey was to scope national legislation in EAPT member countries that allow Pharmacy Technicians to perform the tasks related to vaccination. The aim was to give a detailed and easily accessible overview of the differences and similarities throughout Europe. The definition of a “Pharmacy Technician” for the purpose of this survey was the professional pharmacy support workforce cadres that work with pharmacists.
